Camper In Training (CIT)

CIT Details

Must be 15 years old by June 15
1 summer session; 2 weekend retreats

Fees: $675 for 1 summer session (CIT week)
$85 CIT Retreat (Feb 16-18, 2018)
$85 Spring Retreat (April 2018: TBD)

The SDP Staff will maintain close personal contact with each participant.

Training will include two program areas (one morning and one afternoon), counseling skills, communication skills, taps talks, and other skills necessary for working with campers and staff in a camp atmosphere.

Emphasis will be on philosophy and on the practical ability to take control of a situation and responsibility for the campers under their charge.

Responsibility will include: work in tent situations, leadership in activity assignments, a positive role model for campers, attendance in daily SDP meeting.

We would like to get to know you as well as possible through the application material and believe that your thoughtful, well-constructed personal essay is an important step in the process.  Your essay should be of sufficient length to demonstrate your writing ability and do justice to the topic.  As a general guideline, the length of your statement should be within the range of 250-500 words.  Relate your essay topic to your interest in the program, your aspirations of working with children, and your goals to develop as a leader.

Personal Essay – MUST be submitted with this application

Two Letters of Recommendation

Two letters of recommendation are required.  Applicants will ask two adults for a letter of recommendation.  The adult should share a professional or academic relationship (e.g. teacher, coach, band director, job supervisor).  The letter of recommendation should describe the applicant’s current leadership abilities and potential as a participant in a leadership development program.  The letter should be completed and mailed or emailed directly to camp by the person writing the letter by November 1st.
